Time is a precious commodity, isn't it? Taking a whole day from work to attend professional development - even something we would passionately like to attend - is often a challenge. We think of what's going to be there for us tomorrow when we get back to our desk. Not to mention the emails.
Then there's the cost. Am I going to gain enough from the day to warrant spending so much of my professional development budget on one day workshop?
Of course, there's also the logistics of getting there - the travel, the parking. the organisation of children because you won't be home at the normal time.
This is why teleseminars are just so good. I've been participating in at least one a week for the past couple of years. They are a very time efficient way to gain new knowledge and professional development.
So What is A teleseminar?
A teleseminar is a seminar that is conducted over the telephone. You dial into a number at the advertised time and connect to the teleseminar with a conference ID number.
They are generally only 1 hour long so the presenter has to be focussed in his/her presentation. A lot of information is therefore gained in that short period of time.
And, of course, no leaving your desk! Although you may have to have your calls held and put a "Do Not Disturb"note on your door - No travel and no parking problems either. They are also very low cost.
What's also good about teleseminars is that they are usually recorded and the people who register get a copy of the recording which they can download to their iPod or burn to a CD or just listen to on their computer. So even if something happens on the day and you can't attend, you still get most of the value of the teleseminar.
I'm about to begin offering one hour teleseminars to women in the near future for all the reasons I've mentioned above.
If you want to know more about how they work, email me, and I'll send you a hand-out I've prepared

11 October 2008 - 9:30pm Hi Maree So great to see you making your teachings so much more accessible to people through teleseminars. I laucnhed Wonderful Web Women just over a year ago and our entire business is created around delivering content rich tele-seminars. The reasons you gave for choosing tele-seminars are true and here are another few that i have found. Your customers have access to mentors and teaching they would not normally get access to easily because often they are in another country or charge high prices for the one-on-one coaching and raraly run workshops. The other thing I have found which is incredibly rewarding is that people who would not usually have any chance of attending physical workshops have a whole new world available to them. I have heard first hand so many stories of people who are tied at home with young children or caring for elderly parents who are able to work towards their dreams because they now how access to personalised training that just wasn't there before. Teleseminars allow people to ask questions, share ideas and really create a relationship with the speaker as well as other listeners. I love it and wish you great fortune with what you are doing. Cheers Janet Beckers Wonderful Web Women
12 October 2008 - 12:11am Janet, it is so good to have your comments added to my post on teleseminars. You have an enormous wealth of experience in conducting them. I have been involved in a number of your teleseminars and have found them immensely valuable. What's also good is that as well as making a recording available you also give notes on the call. I don't know how many of my readers know about Wonderful Web Women but it certainly is a great resource for women who want to be leaders on the Web. Would you write back and let people know more about Womderful Web Women and also details of your free and Gold membership?
