Newsletter August 5, 2009                    Soft Skills to manage the Hard Stuff

If you haven't booked for our free teleseminar on

The 8 Essential Soft Skills for Leadership

then I encourage you to do it right now at

http://www.peopleempowered.com.au/teleseminars

It's this Friday, 7th August at 10 a.m. AEST

If your technical skills are excellent and you have many qualifications in your technical area, but want to move into management positions so that you can make decisions, shape policy and make a difference, then this teleseminar is for you. You will learn what skills you need to develop to be able, not just to manage the tasks you have to undertake, but also manage your people so that they will be highly motivated to want to work with you and for you to produce excellent work with enthusiasm and passion.

If you have performance appraisals coming up and you want to be able to have conversations with your employees about their work and their aspirations for their careers in your organisation, rather than just go through the same appraisal form that you've been through over the last 3 years, then this teleseminar is for you. You will learn what you need to do to prepare for such an appraisal, how to get yourself into the right space to be able to produce the type of interaction you want with your employees.

If you, as manager, are very challenged at present and really feeling the pressure, but know you need to be seen to be in control and calm - as well as  visionary, positive and pro-active which is a tall order - then this teleseminar is for you. You can learn how to acquire those qualities that put you into that positive and pro-active space.

So you have until Thursday night to sign up and if you can't be there on the morning, just by signing up you'll get a copy of the recording.

How to Get Top Class Professional Development at Low Cost.

We all know that budgets have been cut and that money is not flowing so freely in most of our organisations at the present time. Professional development and training is one of the areas that have been restricted. Teleseminars like I am conducting on Friday are one way to get quality professional development at low cost. In this case, at no cost.

But there is another way that I want to tell you all about - joining Membership Communities. Many of you probably belong to one or more. To some of you this may be a new concept.

What is a Membership Community?

It's an on-line community of people who share the same interests or needs. They are brought together by someone who has considerable experience and expertise relevant to those interests and needs. This person provides to the members in the community a vault of resources they can use for their professional, career, business and personal development. Resources are constantly being added to the vault. The members pay a monthly membership fee which gives them access to those resources. Most membership communities have a section that is free to everyone with limited access to resources and pay-for-service access to others.

Two Examples.

I belong to both these communities and highly recommend them.

The Difference Makers Community - for people who do today what others will only be thinking about tomorrow.

This membership community is the inspiration of Ian Berry. He says it's a meeting place for people who make a difference for the good of people, our planet and for peace.

Ian is from Adelaide and has more than 20 years experience as an international business speaker with a strong belief that doing good is great for business.

The Difference Makers Community has two levels of membership.

Free membership which gives people access to  a monthly "Making a Difference" newsletter, online forums, videos, a blog, a place to share free resources, another place to advertise your events to the community, and the opportunity to establish and join special interest groups.

Torchbearer Membership which involves a one-off investment of $275.00. This gives the member access to all the resources available to free members, but also exclusive access to Ian's "life-long learning centre, a vault full of tools, tips, techniques, podcasts and much more."

The First Step Community is a membership community for infopreneurs - speakers, trainers, consultants and other information experts - helping them to learn how to leverage their expertise, on and off the internet.

Gihan Perera from Perth, Western Australia, is the talented expert behind The First Step Community. He has been involved with the internet almost since its inception in the early 1980s and has developed great expertise in how to use it to leverage the work of infopreneurs, especially on-line. He is also a great communicator with the ability to put his ideas across in a very clear and accessible way.

The First Step Community also has a free section - email newsletter "Expert Gold", podcasts, audios of teleseminars, ebooks, videos, forums and discussions and tips and tools.

It is the Membership Community with its membership fee of $50 a month + GST that has so much more to offer, however. At present it has 1010 resources that are available to members and Gihan is adding to it all the time. As well, he makes special offers to members from time to time or provides other professional services at greatly reduced fees.

Don't take my word for it. Discover the First Step Community yourself at
