Newsletter June 29, 2011                               Goals Are Dreams With Deadlines

"Those who fail to plan, plan to fail."

Author Unknown

"People who are unable to motivate themselves must be content with

mediocrity; no matter how impressive their other talents."

                                                             Andrew Carnegie.

"What you get by achieving your goals is not as important

as what you become by achieving your goals."

Zig Ziglar

None of us want to fail and none of us really want to be mediocre. If that happens it happens by default. Most of us have all the potential in the world to achieve our goals. Where we fall down is in the Soft Skills area. We have not sufficiently developed our Personal Leadership Skills. These are the skills that we need to lead ourselves to success. Without first being able to lead ourselves, we cannot hope to lead anyone else.

These Personal Leadership skills are what puts us out ahead of the pack. An important one is Self-Awareness or Knowing Ourselves which sees us recognising very quickly what it is within us that is getting in the way of us achieving our goals.

Another important one is Pro-activity, that ability, once we know what is in our way, to take action quickly, positively and energetically to bring about the change we want.

A third important Personal Leadership skill is Resilience, that ability to not let anything get in our way, that whatever obstacles rear their heads we will tackle them, whatever adversity we face we will bounce back.

Developing and enhancing those three for starters will get people a long way towards the personal and professional success they want.

You can do it! Just believing that is the start.

Goals Are Dreams With Deadlines.

Without The Deadline They Remain Dreams.

How many unfulfilled dreams do you have “filed” away inside you?

How many times have you given them a deadline and then abandoned it and “filed” them away again?

Are you living half the life you could be living because you don’t pursue your goals and dreams?

What Gets In The Way Of Us Turning Our Dreams Into Goals

By Setting and Keeping Deadlines?

  • We do not create a vision or a compelling enough reason for achieving our goal.
  • We therefore do not completely align ourselves with our goal.
  • We are then easily drawn away from our goal by “bright shiny objects” that look more interesting, or by what we think is more important.
  • We lack the courage and grit to stick at them and see them through thick and thin.
  • We procrastinate, making excuses for why we can’t get on with it.
  • We have a mindset full of limiting beliefs about ourselves and what we are capable of.
  • We get caught in ”reality” and all the reasons why we can’t have what we really want.
  • We fear what others will think of us if we pursue our goal and actually achieve it.
  • We feel we may lose our existing identity – the way people see us now, and the reputation and profile we have developed - if we go in a new and different direction.
  • We lack the discipline to keep on taking one step after another following an action plan.
  •  We feel it is too hard on our own.
  • We doubt ourselves and our capacity to achieve our goal anyway.

I could go on and on with hundreds of reasons why.

What If I Could Provide You With A Way You Could Overcome

All These Barriers?

I have an Intensive Group Coaching Program beginning soon to help people work with achieving a goal, project or objective that they believe will change or transform their personal and professional lives.

What Is This Group Coaching Program About?

  • It is intensive and requires a commitment of time.
  • It is a 6-12 month program.
  • It gives participants considerable personal access to me and also to some other highly motivated professionals and business people who will also be part of the group.
  • It is low cost because it is a pilot program.

My Latest Blog Posts from Women Leading The Future

June 28, 2011. Managers as Coaches of Their People.

In 2008, Blessing White did a very interesting global study on coaching - The Coaching Conundrum. In one part of that study they asked the respondents to think of their "best" coach and then think of the one coaching action they took which they most valued. The list is very interesting but the results are unexpected. It suggests 9 actions managers can take to engage the performance of their people. Read more here.

June 23, 2011. Role Modelling fro Women Leading the Future - "The Glass Hammer".

One of the major obstacles for women who want to break through the glass ceiling is the lack of opportunity to gain wisdom and understanding from those who have already done it. They are out there, though not in the numbers at the top that we would  like to see.

This is why I want to tell you about "The Glass Hammer", an online community designed for women executives in financial services, law and business. It has a great online newsletter and every issue has an article on a woman who has used "the glass hammer" to break through. These are inspirational women and their stories are very motivating.
